Lehigh Acres man, 18, dies in high-speed crash after car enters motorcycle's path

An 18-year-old Lehigh Acres motorcyclist died when a car entered his path Sunday night, causing a collision.

The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. along State Road 82, near Sunshine Boulevard, in Lehigh Acres, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

Troopers said the motorcycle was traveling west on State Road 82 at a high rate of speed, west of Sunshine Boulevard, while the car was traveling east on State Road 82, attempting to initiate a left turn onto a frontage access road, west of Sunshine Boulevard.

The front of the motorcycle collided with the right side of the car.

The motorcyclist died on scene.

Florida Highway Patrol data indicates at least 37 people have died in Lee County crashes this year.
