Lehigh Acres woman serious, Tennessee woman dead after Highlands County crash, FHP says

A Lehigh Acres woman and a Tennessee woman are seriously injured, and a second Tennessee woman dead, after an out-of-county crash.

The crash happened around 9:50 a.m. Friday along State Road 70, near County Road 721, in Highlands County.

A pickup, driven by a 28-year-old Cape Coral man who accompanied the Lehigh Acres woman, was traveling east on State Road 70, approaching the intersection with County Road 721 while the two Tennessee women traveled west on State Road 70, approaching the intersection.

The Cape Coral man turned left and entered the path of the approaching SUV, troopers said. The right front of the pickup collided with the right front of the SUV.

The Tennessee woman riding in the passenger seat, 62, suffered critical injuries, was transported to Raulerson Hospital, in Okeechobee, where she died.

Troopers said the Lehigh Acres woman suffered serious injuries and was flown to Lawnwood Hospital, in Fort Pierce.
