Leipzig's Germany forward Werner set for Spurs loan move - sources

Germany forward Timo Werner is set to leave RB Leipzig for Tottenham Hotspur on a loan deal until the end of the season, according to dpa sources.

The sources said that talks with the Premier League club are at an advanced stage but not finalised. Issues including possibly making the deal permanent in summer are yet to be settled.

Sky TV also reported the potential surprise move through which Werner will be hoping for more playing time after no longer being a regular starter in Leipzig.

He needs matches to have a chance of returning into Germany's national team for the home Euros in summer.

Spurs will be without their star forward and captain Son Heung-min for several weeks because he is representing South Korea at the Asian Cup in Qatar which starts in a week's time.

Werner, 27, has played in England before, at Chelsea between 2020 and 2022. He returned to Leipzig two years ago, having previously played there 2016-2020.

Werner is in Spain at the moment for Leipzig's Bundesliga winter break training camp in La Manga where he appeared to be very motivated.

It was not clear after the latest speculation whether he would feature in a friendly later Saturday against Swiss club St Gallen.
