ZANESVILLE — For the last five years, the Lemmon brothers, Austin, 17, and Brandon, 20, have turned their Lindbergh Avenue home into a holiday attraction.

The brothers started with about 10,000 lights in 2017, synchronized to a handful of songs. It took about two weeks to hang the lights, and 100 hours to program the computers to run the show.

This year, they started hanging the show's 35,000 lights in October, and Austin started programming the show in the summer.

"I never dreamed when they started this how much it would grow, how much they would keep adding," said their mother, Kathy

The brothers quickly began running out of room. After the first year, they added a second "super tree," a tree of lights made from old antenna towers. Last year, the display spilled into a neighbor's yard. This year, arches over the driveway support hand-painted Peanuts characters and an arch of lights.

As the display has grown, word of the show has spread. This year it was featured in the Muskingum County Visitors and Convention Bureau's Christmas attractions guide.

"When we started five years ago, we never thought it would grow like this," Austin said. "I was just wanting to play around with it and see what we could do with Christmas lights and try and program it ourselves."

"It is amazing what these boys have come up with," said Kathy. "These boys come up with an idea and bring it to life."

Although Kathy supports the boys, she was less than enthusiastic about a planned pyrothenic display. They had it set up and programmed it into a few songs, but nixed it over safety concerns. A pair of smoke machines with light displays that allow them to change the color of the smoke were added instead.

Also added this year was a new breaker box to the house's electrical system. It was the third one added since 2017.

Looking ever forward, Austin said they would like to do a drive-thru light display at another location next year, although it would cost more and require a lot more lights. Or maybe they will just find a way to make their Lindbergh Avenue display even larger.

"I'm very proud of my boys," Kathy said, "especially since they just do this for the community, it makes me very proud."

The Lemmon brothers light display is at 909 Lindbergh Ave. It runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, through Christmas Day.
