Lena Dunham has responded to the success of Girls following its newfound home on streaming services.

The HBO show follows aspiring writer Hannah Horvath (Dunham) as she goes through the tribulations of her twenties, depicting her career aspirations, friendships and romantic relationships.

Though the show may have ended in 2017 following six seasons, the HBO series has found a new lease of life on streaming services in recent months, with Dunham commenting on the new wave of success.

“It’s crazy and wild and not something I expected,” she told Variety. “The cast and I, when we get sent a funny meme by someone, we’re sharing them. I’m going to be 38 in May; I started writing this show when I was 23. I felt like, “If I make a pilot, wow, what a life experience.

“I mean, people are still watching a show that came out before Instagram was invented? What the heck? So to anyone who’s leading the revival: I see your TikTok mashups. I feel grateful for them, even though I’m technologically incompetent and not really on Instagram. I’m getting the love and it’s very felt and appreciated.”

Girls also saw Adam Driver star as Adam Sackler in one of his early roles, with the actor going on to feature in major productions. One such role included his stint as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but the actor revealed recently that he wouldn’t be reprising his role in the near future.

“They [the producers] are doing stuff, but not with me – I’m not there,” he said, before explaining his experience of working within the sci-fi franchise, particularly The Force Awakens.

“When I was asked to be in Star Wars, I thought about it a lot because I didn't want to be bad in it," he revealed. "I got an offer but there was no script to read, which I had never done before. [Director] JJ Abrams walked me through it but there was no script.”

Girls is streaming on Max.
