It says a lot about a community, when you have a community foundation. When Fred Goff created the Cleveland Foundation back in 1914, he could not have imagined there would be more than a thousand foundations today.

Much has changed in our world since 1914, but the core of Goff’s simple but revolutionary idea remains: A community foundation is about serving the community needs and charitable goals in a defined geographical area. It is about connecting compassionate and giving people with the causes they care about today and for always. The truth is, whether a foundation has a billion dollars in assets or $25 million in assets, the thread is still the same.

The heart of a community foundation is about the people who grow up in a community or make their life in a community and want to give back — and that is what your Lenawee Community Foundation is all about.

Partnership. Prosperity. Helping people in need. Celebrating success. Strengthening our neighborhoods, our schools, our families and our future. Keeping our fingers on the pulse of what is happening across our communities. Meeting needs Lenawee County’s way. That is the beauty of your community foundation and each of us can be a part of it.

As the new president and CEO of your Lenawee Community Foundation, I am grateful. I am grateful for the countless caring individuals who have worked in partnership for the last 25 years to build Lenawee’s community foundation. I am grateful for the generous people across Lenawee County who care deeply about each other, our communities and our future. Lastly, I am grateful to join such a strong and trusted local organization founded by and for the Lenawee community.
