Lenawee County basketball sizzling over chilly holiday break

Lenawee County’s basketball teams are anything but idle this Christmas break.

Several area teams have non-conference games, tournaments and special events despite school not being in session.

Onsted’s boys basketball team will go on the road today to take on Plymouth at Ferndale High School as part of the Motor City Roundball Classic, a basketball extravaganza of sorts with games throughout the week in Metro Detroit.

Plymouth (2-3) will have a tall task against Onsted, who is 4-0. The Wildcats will play Thursday at Spring Arbor University against Olivet in the Shot Clock Classic. The Shot Clock Classic, now in its second year, is a full day of games of southeast and greater Jackson and Lansing area teams with a shot clock in effect.

Blissfield’s girls basketball team will play on back-to-back days in the Roundball Classic. The undefeated Royals (7-0) play Grand Blanc at 4 p.m. on Thursday and return Friday to Redford Westfield Prep to take on Macomb L’Anse Creuse North.

Closer to home, Adrian College is hosting a Holiday Shootout of girls basketball games Wednesday and Thursday.

Sand Creek, the host school, will take on East Jackson at 4:30 p.m. with Summerfield taking on Manchester at 6:30 p.m. On Thursday, Summerfield plays East Jackson at 4:30 and Sand Creek takes on Manchester after.

Pioneer North Central is hosting a couple of boys tournament games Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday Hudson takes on Oregon (Ohio) Cardinal Stritch at 4 p.m. Morenci and North Central also play Wednesday. Hudson will play the winner on Thursday, at about 7:30 p.m., as Stritch is only playing the one night.

Both of Lenawee Christian’s basketball teams will play at the Emmanuel Christian Warrior Classic at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio on Thursday and Friday.

The LCS girls will play at 2 p.m. Thursday against Emmanuel Christian and at 10 a.m. Friday against Sylvania Northview.

The LCS boys will play Toledo Scott at 4 p.m. Thursday with Whiteford playing Emmanuel Christian at 6 p.m. The tournament consolation game will be at 4 p.m. Friday with the championship game at 6 p.m.

Carleton Airport is hosting seven girls games Thursday and seven boys games Friday in the Airport Jets Showcase Event. Tecumseh’s girls play Riverview in the marquee game at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

Onsted is at Morenci in a girls basketball game Thursday.
