Lenawee County seeking bids for debris removal at Tecumseh Products site

ADRIAN — Lenawee County is soliciting bids to remove a pile of debris left by the previous owner at the Tecumseh Products Co. site in Tecumseh.

The county has received interest in the property, county administrator Kim Murphy said.

The county purchased the property between South Evans and South Maumee streets and south of East Patterson Street with the intent of building a community, sports, and business complex, dubbed Project Phoenix. That plan was scrapped over concerns about the cost and criticism about whether it was an appropriate use of county funds.

Windsor, Connecticut-based TRC Companies Inc., an environmental consulting firm, is working with Tecumseh Products on installing a loop of injection and extraction wells on the west side of the property.

TRC is required to have the system completely installed by year’s end. The large pile of debris on the property has to be removed for the system to be installed.

The Lenawee County Commission has authorized that a request for proposals be sent out for the project.

Murphy also reported that the site’s appraisal may be available soon. The site has several different levels of environmental conditions which have been included in the appraisal process.

The county has budgeted $68,920 for pre-demolition expenses at the site out of the building and site division of its capital fund.
