Lenawee County solid waste coordinator says be conscious of environment during holidays

Lenawee County Solid Waste Coordinator Becky Borton asks the public to be environmentally conscious around the holiday season.

She asks that residents remember to:

  • Shop wisely and consider what happens with the item at the end of its life.

  • Shop locally when possible to invest in our community.

  • Give the gift of an experience rather than belongings.

  • Use eco-friendly or reusable gift wrap.

She has also been reaching out to waste haulers that provide services in Lenawee County to let them know that the 2023 commercial waste hauler licenses are now available. All commercial waste haulers are required to be licensed by the Lenawee County.

Borton is also to looking for a company that would be interested in hosting a solid foam collection around the holidays.

"All it would take is a couple of volunteers & a cargo truck (medium U-Haul size)," Borton said in an email. "Dart Container in Mason will take it, I’m just looking for some community support in collecting/hauling it."

Things are running smoothly at the county recycling dropoff site, which is open to all Lenawee County residents.

"We accept clean/dry plastic jugs, mugs, tubs #1-7, glass bottles & jars, tin cans & aluminum pans, cardboard, chipboard, magazines, & plain paper," Borton said.
