Lenawee District Library, Woodstock Township seek millage renewals

Voters served by the Lenawee District Library and in Woodstock Township are being asked to renew millages on the Aug. 8 primary election ballot.

The library is seeking renewal of its operating millage for 10 years, through 2032. The millage, 0.5998 mill, is expected to raise $1,283,000 in 2023 if it is approved, according to the proposal. The owner of property with a taxable value of $100,000 would pay $59.98 each year toward the library's operations.

The Lenawee District Library serves people who are not already served by one of these libraries: the Adrian District Library, the Schultz-Holmes Memorial Library in Blissfield, the Clinton Township Public Library, the Hudson Carnegie District Library, the Stair District Library in Morenci or the Tecumseh District Library. The library lists these areas of the county as part of its district:

  • Adrian Township (except those in the Tecumseh Public Schools district).

  • Cambridge Township.

  • Clayton Village.

  • Deerfield Township.

  • Dover Township (except those in the Hudson Area Schools district).

  • Fairfield Township.

  • Franklin Township (except those in the Tecumseh Public Schools district).

  • Macon Township (except those in the Tecumseh Public Schools district).

  • Madison Township.

  • Palmyra Township (except those in the Blissfield Community Schools district).

  • Raisin Township (except those in the Tecumseh Public Schools district).

  • Ridgeway Township (except those in the Tecumseh Public Schools district).

  • Rollin Township (except those in the Hudson Area Schools district).

  • Rome Township.

  • Seneca Township (Sand Creek schools only).

  • Tecumseh Township (except those in the Tecumseh Public Schools district).

  • Woodstock Township.

The library has its main branch on Adrian's west side as well as branches in Addison, Britton, Clayton, Deerfield and Onsted. It also operates the Bookmobile.

In Woodstock Township, along with the library millage proposal, voters are being asked to renew a 0.75-mill levy through 2026 for fire department operations. The township is served by the Addison Fire Department. If approved the owner of property with a taxable value of $100,000 would pay $75 a year for fire department services.
