Lenoir begins waterline improvement project

Apr. 20—The city of Lenoir is in the beginning stages of planning a new waterline improvement project.

The Lenoir City council approved the decision at a meeting on Monday night.

The is working with McGill Associates, an engineering and land planning company, to design a plan for the project, City Manager Scott Hildebran said.

The project will install new water mains connecting Lenoir's water system with systems in other towns or counties, Hildebran said. This will happen with the installment of about 6,500 feet of water main, valves, hydrants, master meters and a booster pump station with a generator, connecting water systems that are currently separate.

He said since the process of this plan has just begun, there is no information available yet for which towns or counties will be affected outside of Lenoir.

The city is still in the preliminary stages of working out a plan with McGill Associates on what exactly will be done, he said.

The total estimated cost for the project is $2,973,000, Hildebran said. It is unclear yet how long the process will take, but planning will start within the next month.
