While Winter Storm Izzy blanketed much of western North Carolina with snow, Lenoir County mostly saw heavy rain and windy conditions.

In addition to a slight glaze of freezing rain, a total of 1.78 inches of rain had drenched the Kinston as of 9 a.m. Monday morning. Wind gusts topped out Sunday at 33 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Lenoir County had not suffered any power outages as of Monday morning.

John Elardo, chief meteorologist for the NWS in Newport, said most of eastern North Carolina didn't see much ice. But some sleet pellets were reported near the Newport weather station.

Monday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny and breezy conditions. Highs will be in the mid-40s with 15 to 20 mph winds with gusts up to 35 mph.
