New Lenox Area Coronavirus Cases Increased By 29 Over 6 Days

NEW LENOX, IL — The number of New Lenox's coronavirus cases increased by 29 over the past week, according to data from the Will County Health Department. New Lenox (ZIP code 60451) has a total of 263 cases on Aug. 4, compared to 234 cases on July 28, which represents a 12 percent increase in the past week.

New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann shared on local social media groups that hospitalizations in the area are also increasing.

"In the past week, our local hospital saw an increase of those being admitted for, or under investigation for, COVID-19 5 times greater than the previous week," Baldermann said on Facebook.

Director Of Marketing and Community Relations at Silver Cross Hospital Debra Robbins said the hospital has 17 patients who have tested positive for the coronavirus and five persons under investigation and awaiting test results. All 22 patients remain in isolation.

"Late last week, we had about half that number so we have seen a bit of an increase over the last couple days,"Robbins said.

Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths, hospitalizations or recoveries by municipality.

Since testing began, IDPH is also reporting a total of 4,035 tests have been performed for ZIP code 60451.

In nearby towns in the Lincoln-Way area, Mokena (ZIP code 60448) has fewer cases with 215 cases and Frankfort (ZIP code 60423) has more, with 286 cases reported as of Aug. 3. Manhattan (ZIP code 60442) has 74 cases, according to data from the county health department.

As of Tuesday, Illinois' coronavirus case count was 184,712 and the coronavirus has claimed the lives of 7,545 Illinois residents. In Will County, there are 8,715 cases of the coronavirus and 339 related deaths.

The state recently developed new resurgence criteria to identify early but significant increases of coronavirus transmission. With the new criteria, the state also developed new emergency management regions, and Will County is now part of region 7.

According to IDPH, as of data available on Aug. 4, region 7 has had six days of test positivity increases and three days of hospital admission increases. Hospital availability for region 7, which includes Will and Kankakee counties, has 36 percent of medical-surgical beds available and 32 percent of ICU beds available.
