Lenten lunches return to Superior Senior Center
Feb. 14—Tammy Wieweck has been a member of the United Methodist Church in Superior for 11 years, joining after her first visit.
"It was the welcoming that I got when I walked in the door," she said. "People were smiling and laughing. I was met with open arms and Shirly Mancini said for me to sit next to her. Pastor Waveland and Stacy (King) were singing in the choir and I joined soon after that visit."
Wieweck and the United Methodist Church were the driving force that has brought the return of the weekly Lenten Lunches that were enjoyed before the pandemic, with this year being the first one.
She is also the president of the Superior Senior Center which will be where the lunches will be held on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 20.
"All six weeks, the lunch will be held at the Superior Senior Center which is already set up for serving rather than going to a different church each week, "Wieweck said. "Lunch will be served after the host church's pastor holds a short devotion at noon and everyone sings a couple of songs. There will be five different soups along with different breads and desserts."
The United Methodist Church will present the first one, followed by LDS on Feb. 27. March 5 is open, as is March 19, but it's a flip of a coin between the Superior Community Church and the Assembly of God. March 19 will be the Fold of the Messiah and the last lunch on March 26 comes from St. Mary Catholic Church. A free will offering will go to the hosting church each week.
These lunches are open to everyone of any denomination as a time for fellowship and an enjoyable time during this sacred season.
