Q: What makes you the ideal candidate to tackle the problems of the moment?

A: For over 10 years I’ve been doing this work in District 2. I am a job creator, I am a community volunteer, and I am a public servant. I have a track record of getting things done and I will be unapologetically selfish for District 2. That means, bringing District 2 out of the shadows and fighting everyday to make our neighbors a priority to all of Leon County. Our district is diverse and deserves a leader that can serve every corner of our district— I am that leader.

Q: With your district encompassing 32304 — which has been dubbed the poorest ZIP code in the state and, in recent years, has had the highest crime rate in Tallahassee — what will you do to directly address the poverty and high crime rate plaguing the area?

A: Being a resident of the 32304 ZIP code for over a decade, I’ve personally seen our neighbors struggle with poverty and crime. We know that crime is result of poverty and fundamentals issues with our youth. I believe we cannot police our way out of crime but what we can and will do is fight crime at its core and that begins with more high paying jobs. I will advocate for more high paying jobs in our district and also focus on making every day life for our residents more affordable. Additionally, we need to prioritize our youth.

Q: What makes you the ideal candidate to tackle the problems of the moment?

A: I believe, wholeheartedly, that I am the person for this job. I have been working in the district on a local level before there was a race to run. I have a deep understanding of the issues facing the individuals and families within our area. I am a wife, a mom and a community advocate that has proven my ability to listen and be a creative solver that readily puts aside party affiliation and biases to instead focus on how we can get better together.

Q: With your district encompassing 32304 — which has been dubbed the poorest ZIP code in the state and, in recent years, has had the highest crime rate in Tallahassee — what will you do to directly address the poverty and high crime rate plaguing the area?

A: These are remarkably difficult topics that I will offer myself up as a fierce advocate to address. I support LSCO and will work alongside Sheriff McNeil to implement safety measures and task force initiatives. I have already started the process of planning LSCO safety trainings for churches, businesses and residents. When individuals have a positive home environment, good jobs, resources and food — the likelihood of poverty and crime decline. As your commissioner, I will ensure those things are directed into the hands of those who need them most. This challenge requires dedication and I have already started the work.
