Let freedom ring with food, of course
We're heading into the Fourth of July holiday weekend with many new places to enjoy a summer meal. The openings of new eateries and concepts do not seem to be slowing down for a summer vacation. That's great for Seacoast diners and foodies, whose list of places to try just keeps growing.
If your wallet needs a little break this holiday, The Flynn Restaurant Group, which owns the Applebee's in Portsmouth and Epping, is celebrating freedom by letting kids eat free on Monday, July 4. There is a limit of two kids 12 and under per adult dine-in entree purchase. This is perfect for a pre-fireworks treat.
Hawaiian Jim's gets a miracle
Just in time for a scorcher of a weekend, Hawaiian Jim's Shave Ice got a miracle. It lost its lease for its York Beach location and was on the verge of not having a presence in the summer resort town for the first time in 34 years. But it was restaurant Stevie D's to the rescue, agreeing to let Hawaiian Jim's share its space and serve its treats out of the restaurant's takeout window. Now that's the spirit of a local restaurant community!
Rochester gets a Smuttynose beer garden
Smuttynose Brewery has opened a beer garden at The Ridge Marketplace shopping plaza in Rochester. It's a summertime concept for the brewer, which has a brewery and restaurant in Hampton and Smuttlabs Brewery and Kitchen in Dover. The beer garden will be open seven days a week from noon to 9 p.m., serving Smuttynose brews as well as its Island District cocktails. Customers can order food from Pepper's Landing Lobster Co., also located in The Ridge plaza, and eat at the beer garden. Put this one on the list of places to visit this summer.
Via Sophia By The Sea opens
Via Sophia By the Sea opened in Kennebunk last weekend, giving diners another coastal restaurant to try. It's an “authentic Italian restaurant infused with seafood flair,” the Kennebunkport Resort Collection said. It's actually a sister restaurant to Via Sophia, which is located at the Hamilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. And it has its own Rabbit Hole to fall into.
Common Man Roadside coming to Portsmouth
A new Common Man Roadside sandwich shop and gas station was approved last week by the Portsmouth Planning Board to locate at the former site of the Burger King on Route 1, across the street from Water Country. The concept for the eatery is a combination market and deli like the ones already located in Hooksett, Manchester and Plymouth.
Fill The Hall a success
