Let the Gov Times roll: APSU celebrates homecoming with weeklong events

Ahead of Austin Peay State University's face-off against North Alabama for their homecoming football game, students and alumni are celebrating with week-long events on campus with a Halloween costume contest, a lip sync battle and more following the theme of "Nightmare on College Street... Fear The Stache!"

The homecoming festivities started at APSU on Monday with a bonfire, pep rally and an announcement of the 10 students on this year's Homecoming court.

Here's a look at some events happening on campus this week.

Game v. North Alabama

This Saturday, the Austin Peay Govs are facing off against North Alabama, hoping to get their fourth-year straight win. The game kicks off at 3 p.m. at Fortera Stadium.

13th Annual Smash! Bang! Lip Sync Contest

The competition is back on as Smash! Bang! Lip Sync returns for another year.

Performers lip sync songs and put on a show, including APSU's fight song Smash! Bang! This year's lip sync battle will be on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center.

Homecoming Parade

For the 78th year, Eighth Street will be filled with floats, excited voices and a Gov time for the annual homecoming parade.

The parade will begin on Eighth Street at 11 a.m. before going on College Street, Drane Street, Farris Street and coming back up to Eighth Street.

Step show

APSU is ending its homecoming celebration with the National Pan-Hellenic Council's step show.

The show is a time when the members of historically African-American fraternities and sororities known as the "Divine Nine" showcase their traditions by stepping with music, rhythmic chants and stunts celebrating their culture and history.

The annual show will be at the Dunn Center, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $15 for students and military ahead of the event and $20 at the door.

Alumni events

APSU alumni are ready to celebrate the weekend with their own list of events happening.

Alumni events start on Friday with the 45th annual homecoming golf tournament at 10 a.m. Although registion for that event is over, that's just where the fun starts. An APSU Military dinner, African American Alumni Chapter Scholarship mixer and an All Athletic Mixer is also happening.

On Saturday, alumni are invited to the #ExperienceAustinPeay tailgating before the big game at a 1 p.m. between the Jenkins Family Fieldhouse and Fortera Stadium.
