Let the library help you ring in the new year

Dec. 21—NORWALK — Start the year out right! Let the Huron County Community Library help you adjust to the coming of winter with plenty of things you can do for the month of January.

Victoria Hicks, from The Area Agency on Aging, will be at our Willard Memorial Library location on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. to look at the 5 Core benefits of Medicare/Medicaid- Snap, Heap, Medicaid/Medicare Savings Program, and Medicare Extra Help. Bring your questions to the library Community Room and let the experts help you! There will even be time for individual assistance to see what benefits you might qualify for.

Declutter and Organize your space with us on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Willard Annex. Jennifer Findley from J.F. Organizing, Inc. is coming to teach us some easy ways to organize and declutter our spaces.

Get your creativity in gear for the "new" year by crafting with the library! Join us in the annex on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m. for a look at how you can create a visual collage art piece and then on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. make a mini, unique crayon project with melted crayons.

Join the library at the Willard Enrichment Center on Thursday, Jan 12 at 10 a.m. and learn how to make a pressed tin wall hanging. The Willard Library will continue to hold free craft workshops at the center on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 10 a.m.

Bring your computer questions to the library during "Tech Thursdays". Learn at your own pace with help nearby. Jarrad will be here to answer questions, review topics, and more. Topics include basic computer skills, email, social media, and more. The January dates include Jan. 5, 12, 19, and 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Tweens & Teens join Mrs. Rogers at the Willard Library after school each day in the Teen Room for a weekly project. The week of Jan. 2, "Ink a Mug"; the week of Jan. 9, "Clay"; the week of Jan. 16, a "Domino Engineering Challenge"; the week of Jan 23, "Yarn-a-mathingly" and the week of Jan. 30, "Diamond Dotz".

Willard Youth Programs are suggested for grades K-5. Kids will have "Snow Much Fun" in the Community Room on Tues. Jan 10, at 4:30 p.m. Come and create a snowman habitat with us!

Are you in the "Mooed for Milk" (and cookies)? Join us, kids, on Wednesday Jan. 11 starting at 3:30 p.m. to celebrate National Milk Day! After school enjoy cow stories, a craft, snacks, and a look at how milk is made.

Zentangle is a fun art technique. Join Miss Char on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 4:30 p.m. in the Youth Programming Room to learn more about Zentangle and create your own animal art.

Seize the day and create with clay on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 4:30 p.m. in the Youth Programming Room.

Come to the Willard Annex Kids on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 4:30 and have some fun, creative art using string and paint.

"Read to Me Storytime" is held Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The theme for Jan. 4 & 5 is "Here Come the Penguins", on Jan. 11 & 12 it is "Oh, No! More Snow!", on Jan. 18 & 19 it is "Ah-Ah-Ah Choo! A story time full of sneezing", and on Jan 25 and 26 it is "Moose on the Loose".

"Monday Reads" the morning book discussion at Willard will meet on Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. to talk about "Faye, Faraway" by Helen Fisher.

"Turn the Page" Willard's evening book discussion will meet on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. to share their thoughts on "One Italian Summer" by Rebecca Serle.

"Cook Up a Storm Cookbook Club" will meet on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. They will share recipes from Keto and other healthy eating cookbooks.

Kids, drop in anytime between 3:30 and 5 p.m. at our Wakeman Library location for "Thursday After School". There is a different activity every week. Dates for January are Jan. 19 and 26.

Our little patrons can "Pop In and Play" at the Wakeman library, Jan. 18 and 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. They can enjoy toys and fun activities.

Storytime at Wakeman will be Jan. 20 and 27 at 10:30 a.m.

Wakeman's "Kids' Cookbook Club" especially for homeschoolers will meet Tuesday, Jan. 3 at noon. The cookbook for January is "Gooseberry Patch Cook It Quick". Pick up a copy of these cookbooks at the circulation desk.

The adult cookbook club will meet Monday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. They will share recipes from "Homestead Recipes" by Amanda Rettke.

"Who Picked This Book?" book club at Wakeman will discuss the "Educated: A Memoir" by Tara Westover. Check with the circulation desk.

Feeling crafty? Join us at Wakeman on Monday, Jan.23 at 5:30 p.m. for some "Melted Crayon" fun.

Stories, music, and fun, fun, fun! Bring your little ones for a fun filled storytime with Miss Carolyn at the North Fairfield Library Jan. 11 at 11 a.m.

The Inspirational Book Club at North Fairfield will read "The Prayer Box" by Lisa Wingate for the month of January.

Stop by and Carolyn will also help you find an amazing new read!

Bring a project to work on and join the "Sit and Stitch" group at North Fairfield on Jan. 9, 23, and 30 at 10 a.m.

Join us at 11 a.m. on Jan. 13, 20, and 27 at our Greenwich library location for stories, crafts, and more made just for you little one.

"Pop-in and Play" offers moms an opportunity to get out during the winter and bring the kids to the library for unstructured playtime. Bring your little ones to Greenwich on Jan. 18 and 25 at 1 p.m. for fun and maybe even surprises.

No January session of STEM for our homeschool families at our Greenwich location.

"Mystery and Thriller Book Club" at Greenwich will be reading "Sworn to Silence" by Linda Castillo. Join us on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. for discussion.

The adult craft for the Greenwich Library will be "Melted Crayons" on Monday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m.

The Huron County Community Library will be closed Jan. 2, 2023 for New Years' Day celebrated and Jan. 16, 2023 and Jan. 16, 2023 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
