Who let the patriot dogs out? Center City holds 3rd annual pet parade
The Amarillo Community Market held its third annual Patriotic Pet Parade on Saturday morning, with more than 100 people cheering on their favorite pets in downtown Amarillo.
Prizes were given to the most patriotic, talented, waggiest tail, best smile, and owner/pet look alike. The host for the event was local on-air personality, David Lovejoy.
Beth Duke, executive director of Center City, said this event has grown more popular each year and is a fan favorite among community market attendees.
“This was so exciting; this was our third annual patriotic pet parade,” Duke said. “We started this to do something different for the Fourth of July weekend. We had 50 entries today of all sizes and breeds. The judges had really tough decisions with the way the owners have stepped up with their costumes and pets.”
Duke said that with so many people bringing their dogs to the market, this event really appeals to a wide range of people with its pet-friendly environment. She said that events like this encourage people to stay longer and shop to support local vendors. She said the market is now open to new vendors and encourages people to go to the website to sell their wares.
“Amarillo Community Market is in its eighth season," Duke said. “We are so happy to be back in our original location at 1000 S. Polk St. This holiday weekend, we wanted something special because so many people bring their pets to market. We want people to find something new every time they come."
