ROCKFORD — Adrianna Baez Romero and her sister Andrea Baez like to say that they sell happiness.

The siblings converted their love of planning parties and creating balloon art into a Rockford-based business called BW Event & Decor.

“It’s essentially a mashup and combination of all of our interests, the things that we like and the execution of that,” Adrianna said. “It’s decor, balloons and grazing tables. It’s about giving you an experience.”

BW Event & Decor plans parties and celebrations for children and adults alike. Everything from birthday parties, baby showers, baptisms, wedding receptions and store grand openings.

The company has designed balloon art for events at Nicholas Conservatory, Crusader Health and Danfoss in Loves Park.

“All of our clients get something different from us every single time and that’s important when you’re doing something like this,” Andrea said. “You want your child or your spouse or whoever you’re celebrating to feel special.”

The siblings are working with the Rockford Small Business Development Center to grow their company.

They plan to open a storefront at 112 N. 2nd St. where they’ll sell party supplies and host workshops for event planning.

Adrianna, Andrea and their three siblings moved from southern California to Rockford in 2004 when their father took a job at Chrysler in Belvidere.

Adrianna, 30, graduated from Harlem High School in 2009 and attended Loyola University in Chicago while Andrea, 27, moved back to California with her mother following their parents divorce and then went to college in Boston.

The sisters reunited in Rockford in 2017 and are grateful for their professional success here.

“We just grew up with parents who instilled in us that there’s nothing that we can’t do,” Adrianna said. “Being in a community like Rockford, where so many people take a chance and open up businesses and believe in themselves. I feel like this community rewards that.”
