Welcome to Talkin' Titans. This is Tennessee Titans beat reporter Ben Arthur. In today's newsletter, I offer my thoughts on Treylon Burks' modest showing at rookie minicamp.

In 2016, second-round pick Derrick Henry struggled in an early footwork drill on the first day of Titans rookie minicamp.

There’s a video from ESPN capturing the former Alabama star stumbling during his first attempt at a drill. He completed it on his second try, but it was far from smooth. It looked slow and uncoordinated.

Six years later, Henry is a superstar with two Pro Bowls, an All-Pro selection, an NFL Offensive Player of the Year award and a 2,000-yard rushing season under his belt. He has turned out just fine.

That’s why we shouldn’t put much stock into what happened with Treylon Burks on the first day of rookie minicamp Friday.

The first-round receiver looked fatigued, needed an inhaler and had ice played on his neck (possibly to cool him off). He left practice twice, unable to finish the day. The jokes flew on social media.

While the former Arkansas star had a rough first day with the Titans, it shouldn’t define what he is – or what he could be – as a player.

It’s way too early to make such determinations – especially at a non-padded practice in May, more than two months from training camp.

After all the Day 1 chatter, I thought it was notable that Burks went through the second day of rookie minicamp without hiccups. He participated in all drills. Caught passes from Malik Willis in team periods. Even bounced back from a drop with a reception a couple plays later.

The progress is what we should be focused on. That’s what will define him as a pro years from now.

That's what defined Henry.
