Pueblo West Chamber director announces departure

Pueblo West Chamber Executive Director Amy Gasperetti announced May 26 she will be leaving her post at the chamber.

"It has been my great honor to serve in this position for the last seven and a half years and as a board member for two years prior to that. I will not be a stranger and look forward to seeing you at chamber events," she said in the announcement.

Gasperetti is credited with helping to build the chamber membership, developing partnerships that give Pueblo West a voice in southern Colorado, being a voice for local businesses and connecting members with resources.

Pueblo state patrol officer recognized for safety efforts

Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Carrie Jackson of the Pueblo Troop 2d office has been honored for her work to help make local highways safer.

The Colorado Department of Transportation and Mothers Against Drunk Driving announced winners of 2023 Law Enforcement Champion awards June 7. Jackson's award recognizes her for her focus on efforts to reduce impaired driving, increase the use of seat belts and reduce speeding.

Pueblo West resident wins $1,000 bankers scholarship

A Pueblo West student is getting a jump start on college tuition thanks to a $1,000 scholarship from the Independent Community Bankers of Colorado.

Pueblo's Chad Pfief of InBank presented Madison Lovato with the scholarship this week with the help of Mike Van Norstrand, executive director of Independent Community Bankers of Colorado. Lovato plans to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

“This scholarship will help me work toward my dream career in sociology, specifically work in international crime. This award makes it possible for me to pursue my educational dreams to make my career choice a reality," Lovato said.

“Community banks are all about our community and that means investing in our next generation. I was honored that InBank could be a part of this," said Andrew Trainor, president of InBank.

PJ's Coffee closes at Rawlings Library

PJ's Coffee at the Rawlings Library, 100 E. Abriendo, closed May 31 due to unforeseen circumstances.

Library staff will be seeking new vendors to operate the cafe space and anyone who is interested can submit a proposal when a Request for Proposals is issued. In the meantime, the library will serve free coffee, tea and hot cocoa at a self-serve station from 9-11 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, said Ann Boyden, library public information officer.

Rowdy Performance and Machines adds U-Haul rentals in Pueblo

U-Haul Company of Colorado has added the Rowdy Performance and Machine business at 1901 W. 18th St. to its list of neighborhood dealers serving the Pueblo community.

Rowdy Performance and Machine Owner David Winegardner now offers essential services to his Pueblo County customers such as U-Haul trucks, trailers, towing equipment, support rental items and in-store pickup for boxes. Normal business hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Villa Pueblo Senior Living to celebrate "Wall of Honor" July 6

Villa Pueblo Senior Living is inviting the community to help celebrate the unveiling of its “Wall of Honor” from 2-4 p.m., July 6, at the facility, 1111 Bonforte Blvd.

The wall is designed to recognize the sacrifice of veterans who reside at Villa Pueblo Senior Living. Active military, friends, family, VFW, American Legion, local leaders and the public are invited to participate in the celebration.

“Our team has worked collaboratively with the veterans to make this possible,” said Scott Shoemaker, executive director. “The photos and memorabilia collected are a remarkable representation of the bravery and sacrifice these men and women have made for our country."
