LETTER: Abortion debate is distraction from real problems in America

I'm trying to figure out what the fuss is about over abortion. I'm also trying to figure out why Biden calls himself "a child of God" while praising abortion. Unless I'm mistaken, the term of "child of God" comes from a Bible passage referring to the fact that the child is created in the image of God even as it forms in the womb.

Let's set aside the pro and con arguments and look at the comments by Democrats, especially by Biden, that this whole thing is prima facia evidence that MAGA is the most radical and dangerous organization in the history of the U.S. and shows we want to end Democracy.

So, all the proposed change in Rowe v. Wade does is puts the question where it rightly belongs (according to the 10th Amendment of the Constitution), back in the hands of the states. So, let's see if I've got this right: the Democrats want a proclamation that all women can get an abortion; the MAGA people want people to have the opportunity to vote if they do or do not want abortions. Which one of those positions seems more in line with democracy?

The whole ado is, I'm sure, a welcome reprieve for the Democrats because it will knock inflation, the border, the hideous decisions on the use of America's fossil fuel, free speech, our pathetic response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, our lack of immediate effective actions to stop Russia's war crimes slaughters, the economy and a host of other "unpleasantries" they've dialed up out of the narrative. Unfortunately, it will only be a brief reprieve.
