LETTER: Abortion, woman's health care between her and doctor

No matter what we look like or where we live, most of us believe that we should decide for ourselves when to have children.

Justice Alito’s leaked draft opinion, which would overturn a woman’s right to a safe and legal abortion, will be the first time in history that the Supreme Court revised a legal precedent that takes away the rights of a protected class of Americans.

For decades, far-right politicians have demonized people who seek reproductive care. These same extremists attack access to contraception, eliminate sex education and eradicate programs that encourage responsible family planning.

Don’t fall for it. A majority of voters say that they do not want Roe v. Wade overturned. Even Panhandle conservatives are clear that healthcare decisions should be made between a woman and her doctor, not politicians. All Floridians deserve the freedom to be healthy, prosperous and safe. That freedom includes the ability to decide if, when and how we grow our families.
