LETTER: Adoption is an option to abortion

The Jan. 2 issue of the Daily News printed “Debate over adoption as alternative renewed.” I was amazed that adoption, an alternative to unplanned pregnancy, was seen as negative because the mother becomes attached to the child and endures emotional issues with the adoption.

What a sad commentary that the pro-abortion “culture of death” industry also sees adoption (saving a life) as an attack on abortion rights. Fortunately, the article provided an example of a positive experience, actually two, of giving up a child for adoption. Kelsey Wright’s statement, “It took time to heal, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’m so grateful adoption was an option,” showed that it can be a positive event during a tough time in one’s life.

But also look at the other side of the coin: some of the factual emotional and physical impacts of abortion taken from TeenBreaks.com, which identifies data sources. Women who aborted have a 138% higher risk of mental problems compared to women who have given birth. Women with a history of abortion have higher rates of anxiety (34% higher), depression (37%), alcohol use/misuse (110%), and suicidal behavior (155%) compared to those who have not had an abortion. Women who have had abortions are more likely to experience ectopic pregnancies, infertility, hysterectomies, stillbirths, miscarriages and premature births than women who have not had abortions.

What decision would you make? Support the growth of new life for nine-plus months and give that young person the opportunity for a full and happy life; or subject yourself to the negative physical and emotional impacts of abortion. For help, just Google: Pregnancy support centers.
