Letter: Amtrak passenger disembarks, finds much to like in Spartanburg

In May, I finally visited Spartanburg, South Carolina, the city Mark Scott left Beverly Hills, California, (years ago) to manage. The opportunity to visit came about because my sweetheart wanted to visit her family in Spartanburg.

I have known Scott since January 1986. And for your interest, the Beverly Hills Weekly newspaper over the years still reports on him because that is how much the Beverly Hills community liked him.

The Spartanburg Public Library headquarters is a grand temple of knowledge and a center for educational, cultural, and museum-type artistic pursuits. At this very library, I met a librarian who once worked on maintaining banks' computers. She would be a splendid leader to turn Spartanburg into a mini high-tech hub, which could attract present federal tech funds.

Furthermore, the Spartanburg Amtrak train station and its surrounding area, if quickly improved with substantially attractive upgrades and life, would be a true magnetic gateway to get many train passengers to disembark to enjoy your city.

There are very few train stations with attractive architecture, landscaping, and a cityscape to catch the fancy of a traveler's interest, wonderment, and motivation of curiosity and fabulous rumor.

Yours could become a worthwhile tourist attraction, don't you agree?
