Letter: Call our lawmakers to voice your support for carbon pricing

Many people recycle their plastics, cans, paper, and more. Many even install solar panels. Increasingly, we are buying electric vehicles. Cheers to all who are doing what they can to mitigate the effects of climate change.

That said, individuals taking personal responsibility is only part of a solution that requires much more action. There must be the political will to enact legislation that asks of the fossil fuel industry and others what we ask of ourselves; that is, take steps now to reduce carbon emissions. Without the committed support of Congress to put a price on carbon — such as the policy supported by Citizens’ Climate Lobby — no amount of action on our part will change the course of climate change.

So, before adding compost to your bin or rinsing those cans for recycling, call Sen. Todd Young (202-224-5623), Sen Mike Braun (202-224-4814), and Rep. Trey Hollingsworth (202-225-5315) and ask them to take bipartisan leadership in supporting a price on carbon. As Congress works through the budget reconciliation process, right now is the critical time to go big on climate by pricing carbon.
