Letter carriers' annual food drive is May 13, benefits Etowah County Community Food Bank

The Etowah County Community Food Bank will be participating with urban and some rural letter carriers in the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive on May 13.

It will be the county’s largest one-day food drive.

The food bank, a United Way agency, in a news release asked residents served by Gadsden, East Gadsden and Attalla post offices to leave non-perishable food items in a bag near their mailbox on the day of the drive, before their letter carrier arrives.

The items requested include canned meats, pasta, peanut butter, rice, canned soups and canned vegetables.

According to the release, the food will be taken to the Etowah Community Food Bank warehouse, then will be distributed to needy families via agencies like the Etowah Baptist Mission Center, Catholic Center of Concern, Salvation Army and the Charlsie House Shelter.
