Letter: Decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is a horrible moment in nation's history

Letter to the editor

What’s next after Roe v. Wade?

Maybe prevent women from voting, demand to have the phrase “submission to husband” included in the wedding vows. In short, to take away all women's rights.

Men shouldn’t be complacent; the Supreme Court some day might prohibit you from having a vasectomy.

The Supreme Court turned its back on 50 years of precedent. It issued a shameful ruling explicitly to overturn Roe v. Wade. This indefensible decision will bring devastating consequences.

For decades the fight over reproductive rights has unfolded and there have been many good developments, but the Republicans and some churches have been working hard toward the destruction of women's rights.

The ruling of Roe v. Wade’s demise was not a complete surprise to some of us. We have known that in 2016, (Mitch) McConnell decided to impose a high-court blockade for nearly a year, and in 2017, the Republicans executed the “nuclear option” confirming (Neil) Gorsuch, the conservative, to be a jurist to the Supreme Court.

(Anthony) Kennedy, ignoring the concern we all had about Trump’s corruption and radicalism, retired from the Supreme Court and gave the ex-president an opportunity to fill the high court vacancy with (Brett) Kavanaugh.

With Justice (Ruth Bader) Ginsburg's death, Republicans confirmed Amy Coney Barrett, giving way to a six-member far right majority that could do as it pleased on any issue, like criminalizing health reproductive freedom.

This is a horrible moment in our nation’s history. We know that they won’t stop here.

Neither will we.
