Letter to the editor: Beware the 'woke mob'

So finally, the big bipartisan infrastructure bill from the Senate has passed the House. We might have hoped this would herald the dawning of a new age of bipartisanship, but it feels to me more like a funeral.

The six Democrats who voted against it seem to be the "pallbearers" of the Progressive caucus, because they clearly voted against progress. The 13 Republicans who voted for it could be the "honor guard" to mourn the passing of the Grand Old Party, (one for each stripe on the flag).

Some of those Republicans who opposed the bipartisan infrastructure bill have gone on record to call it "socialism." Well, this is the kind of socialism that most of us can support.

I was recently made aware of a book by Black author John McWhorter called "Woke Racism." This small book is a good introduction to the concept of the "woke mob" as a new religion.

It seems that our two political parties have become religions. Republicans are the party of Trumpism, and Democrats are the party of Wokeism. To borrow an offensive remark from the Beatles, we could say that both Trumpism and Wokeism are "more popular than Jesus."

Many Democrats see Trumpism only in the rearview mirror. They seem more worried that young children might have to spend time with their mothers, without the benefits of universal pre-K and subsidized child care.

The "woke mob" is trying to purge the Democratic Party of independents, instead of trying to win elections. I agree with Democratic strategist James Carville that "some of these people need to go to a woke detox center or something." I think if Democrats would just hit the snooze button and go back to sleep, they might get more votes.
