I wanted to thank The Independent and The Repository for the excellent and thorough coverage of our Tuslaw girls softball team in recent weeks.
This group made school history as they worked their way into the Division III Final Four state tournament games recently. No, they did not succeed in bringing home the championship, but in the eyes of their families, fellow students and community members, they are champions in their own right.
As the presenter of the medals and trophies told them, being the second-best team in a state that has 610 traditional school districts is a pretty impressive record. I saw so many former players in attendance as well as those of us who are now senior citizens in our community who all came to watch this phenomenal team.
We stood on our feet and helped cheer T-U-S-L-A-W with students and teachers alike. It was great fun to watch to excellent softball games being played by our own Mustangs.
Thanks for the memories, girls and coaches. We are so very proud of you. Come back next year and do it again.
Phyllis Staver, Tuscarawas Township
