Letter to the editor: House Republicans complain about border crisis but balk at solution

Can someone please explain to me what House Republicans want?

The Senate, led by a very conservative Republican, has reached a bipartisan bill to address the border crisis. MAGA Republicans in the House have repeatedly called upon the Biden administration to do something. They have stoked fear about the border issue to the American public for the entirety of President Biden’s term, yet they’ve offered no solutions. Now they have an opportunity to do something and are choosing to obstruct serious legislation.

What I've gleaned from reports about the bill is that it addresses many of the exact issues they have been clamoring about forever. One can't help but conclude they have no interest in doing anything solely for political purposes. They are taking their marching orders from the former president so he can use the border as a campaign weapon.

While the bill may not give them everything they want, it allows for a great starting point and shows the public that they are serious about protecting our border. We've got to start somewhere. If this is how they make America great — by holding hostage serious legislation to appease their leader — they are being disingenuous at best, criminal at worst.
