Letter to the editor: There must be consequences for the actions of Jan. 6

When the committee hearings are over, those who are found guilty should face criminal prosecution. But it is not likely anyone will face any real punishment.

If there are not severe consequences for their actions, there can be the expectancy the same will happen again, and American democracy as we once knew it will be but a joke.

After all, if there is no punishment, what is there to lose? And, even if found guilty, chances are they will be pardoned. Just ask Roger Stone.

To those who feel this is a witch hunt, just ask yourself, "What if this were the Democrats facing all of these accusations?" I feel absolutely sure the Democrats would be investigated by the Republicans.

And rightly so.

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan said: "Real America doesn’t care about the January 6th committee." I think only Fox viewers don’t care about the hearings because Fox tells them what to think. Think for yourself, man.

It is also reported that Jordan said he has nothing to hide. Yet he has since ignored subpoenas, missed deadlines, and publicly attacked the integrity of the investigation. Why would anyone support this behavior?

Please America, open your eyes and realize the behavior we saw from 2016 to 2020 was not normal for our great country. Many good things happened, but unfortunately there was so much disgrace.

In the free, legitimate election of 2016, with peaceful transition of power, I had hope, but my hope faded quickly.

God bless America.
