Letter to the editor: Ohio has a 'cult of unvaccinated'

"OHIO! Find it here!" This slogan was created in 2015 by a Columbus company called Cult Marketing, a name I find ironically appropriate.

On Tuesday, Jan. 25, the Repository ran an article that stated 65% of Ohioans are unvaccinated. 65%!

Not surprising from a state that has shifted more radically right-wing. The "cult of unvaccinated," if you will, who are more willing to support the "Big Lie" and an insurrection than science. Many will argue it’s about individual freedom. They’ll yell "my body, my choice," yet fail to see any hypocrisy in that statement.

The cult is fueled by elected officials who publicly discredit vaccine effectiveness, then privately take them. Who clash with epidemiologists to rile the base to keep bringing in campaign donations.

Politicians who blame President Joe Biden for not honoring his campaign promise of ending COVID, then do everything possible to prevent him from doing so. Politicians who couldn't care less about the health of their own constituents or the health care professionals who battle to keep them alive.

These politicians, like cult leaders of the past, are leading their followers down a deadly path.

Thanks to the Ohio Trumpublican party, right-wing media and the disgraced demigod they idolize, it’s why we find ourselves with only 35% of our state vaccinated.

Our new slogan should read "OHIO! Find it here! COVID, that is!"
