Letter to the editor: Support Wyckoff, Plakas for North Canton school board

After attending the League of Women Voters forum for North Canton school board and watching the commentary in local Facebook groups, I want to encourage everyone in our community to vote for Alyssa Plakas and Lindsey Wyckoff.

Both women are well-spoken professionals and products of our own local school system. They are both fine examples of Hoover graduates seeking to better the community in which they were raised and currently reside. What a great example to show our students. This is in contrast to both other candidates, who are not graduates of our district.

Wyckoff and Plakas have dedicated their professional lives to education, as well. Wyckoff has varied experience working with nonprofits that serve underprivileged schools and is the daughter of two former North Canton schoolteachers. Plakas was a high school government teacher at Washington Massillon High School with an incredible instructional record for a decade. These facts are also in contrast to both other candidates.

Finally, neither Plakas nor Wyckoff have signed pledges or sought endorsement from Moms For Liberty. These candidates confidently stand behind their convictions without need of assistance from a radically divisive political organization. This fact is also in contrast to both other candidates, who denied knowledge of the problematic reputation of the organization at the forum on Oct. 11, though they both signed the pledge.

Join me in supporting Hoover High School alumnae Plakas and Wyckoff for school board as they seek to continue their efforts to improve education for all students in our district.
