Letter to the Editor: Vote for sensible, ethical candidates

There are a few local candidates who stand out amidst the others. Doug Zylstra is running for re-election for county commissioner. For months, I’ve seen Doug get off his bike and knock on doors to talk to people about his candidacy. Doug is an advocate for housing, health care, and ensuring that our tax dollars are spent responsibly. He’s a top-notch person.

Mercedes Watts is running for 20th Circuit Court Judge. Mercedes cares deeply that everyone has a fair trial. She is particularly concerned about children who are separated from their parents. We need a fair judge like Mercedes.

Joseph Alfonso is running for US Congress MI-4. Joseph served in the Marines. He is concerned that we have clean water, cares about equality protections, military spending, veteran affairs, anti-trust laws, reproductive rights, gun violence, and unions. Joseph is a straight talker and will do everything in his power to protect Michiganders.

Larry Jackson, a candidate for State Representative of 86th District, supports diversity and wants to make all people feel at home in Michigan. Larry is a Navy veteran and has volunteered for a nonprofit that focused on building sustainability projects to alleviate urban poverty. Larry speaks honestly about his beliefs and goals and is interested in hearing from others about their concerns.

Kim Nagy is running for Michigan State Senate District 31. She has been a public school teacher for 26 years and has been actively engaged with the Ottawa County Democratic Party. Kim not only understands politics, but she has solutions to fix problems.

If you are like me and want to vote for candidates who are honest, conscientious, and decent people, I highly recommend that you vote for these sensible, ethical candidates that we can trust. Check out their websites to learn more about these devoted candidates.
