Letter to the Editor: Where is Jack Bergman?

Congressman Jack Bergman represents Michigan’s first district, and as one of his constituents, I feel compelled to ask, “Where is Jack Bergman?”

For over a year, I have attempted to find out where and when Congressman Bergman will appear in our district, especially in the Upper Peninsula. I have called his Washington office, emailed his scheduler, emailed his website, called his Michigan offices in Gwinn, Manistique and Traverse City, all to no avail. I have had voicemails unreturned, emails ignored. I have talked to a number of aides, both in Washington and Michigan, all of whom have been very polite but unwilling to let me know when and where the congressman will meet with constituents.

I have visited his website as well as his Facebook page, and have seen pictures of the congressman with constituents at various events in the district, but no indication of upcoming appearances.

The election occurs in under two months. I hope the congressman plans to meet with constituents at town halls, open forums, and debates where important issues can be addressed, and questions asked and answered. These opportunities for constituents to meet with candidates are crucial to the election process, especially in these troubling times.

So wherever you are, Jack Bergman, please consider letting us know where and when we might meet and talk with you.
