Letter: Huizenga should condemn Gosar's reprehensible post

Dear Rep. Bill Huizinga:

As one of your constituents, I urge you to strongly criticize the recent action by one of your Republican colleagues, Rep. Paul Gosar.

He posted a message, in a cartoon, in which the heads of two people were attacked — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and President Joe Biden. This is totally undemocratic and stupid.

They also contribute to a culture of violence in our country. Even though the message was not asking anyone to attack anyone, who knows how such a message can “inspire” others to use violence in our democracy? To strongly criticize the policies of another member of Congress or the president is very appropriate.

Healthy debate is important. However, posting such a message is reprehensible.

Perhaps you have criticized what Rep. Gosar did, but you have not done that in any clear way. Apparently you did not vote to censure Rep. Gosar. Why not? Do you approve of what he did or do you think it was no big deal?

I do think it is a big deal and a very unhealthy action by anyone — and certainly by a member of Congress.
