Letter: Jan. 6 hearings ends with a whimper

The conclusion of the Jan. 6 hearings reminds me of a line from that famous poem "The Hollow Men" by T. S. Eliot: “This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper.”

So that’s it, then? It’s over? What was the point? Hours of testimony. Countless witnesses. People like Liz Cheney sacrificing their careers. Friends, neighbors and families divided even further. To what end?

Was it just another dog-and-pony show designed to sway public opinion and win votes for the Democrats? Do they want justice or just crave power?

The fact that in Michigan (and elsewhere) the Democrats actually funded the campaigns of Republicans who are so called “election deniers” in their primary election races is telling. They don’t really care about right and wrong, just winning and losing. They did it because they thought these candidates, the bad guys, would be easier to beat in November.

Michigan Rep. Peter Meijer (3rd District) was one of just 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach the former president. He was one of the good guys. His reward: the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) spent over $400,000 helping his opponent, John Gibbs, a reported election denier who was endorsed by the former president. He was one of the “bad guys” and with the Dems' help — he won!

The DCCC support of candidates like Gibbs is shameful! Holding the Jan. 6 hearing publicly while privately supporting the “wrongdoers” is the ultimate act of hypocrisy.

One party is accused of committing potential crimes for political gain. Rather than prosecute, the other party tries to also profit politically. It proves that in politics there is no right or wrong; no “good guys” or “bad guys”; just politicians who care more for themselves and their party than our country.

Both parties are guilty, but it’s the voters who are responsible. We are the ones who continue to settle for less — “the lesser of two evils” as the saying goes. Maybe everyone should vote for the Independents for a change.
