Letter: Neither Jennifer Shukaitis or Rosemary Brown are responsible for inflation

I just opened my post office box to find FOUR huge attack ads from Rosemary Brown. Every word was vicious, every word untrue.

Could Ms. Brown honestly believe that Supervisor Jennifer Shukaitis is single-handedly responsible for the worldwide “poor economy” and raised prices? That she is personally “stifling job creation”? That she plans to “raise electricity rates by 400 percent”? While hurting small business? She could not.

This inflation is worldwide. Neither Ms. Shukaitis nor Ms. Brown caused it. Jennifer supports programs that bring prices down, while Rosemary attacks them, offering no solutions of her own.

Democrats have lowered taxes in Monroe County. Ms. Shukaitis’ intends to lower them further, focusing on the middle class and small business.

SO, what is Ms. Brown really afraid of? Read her ads closely.

Pennsylvania’s participation in RGGI, a program we share with all NE states will reduce carbon pollution by up to 225 million tons, prevent 30,000 hospital visits, increase Pennsylvania’s Gross State Product by nearly $2 billion, raise personal income by $3.7 billion, and create a net increase of 30,000 jobs— all by 2030.

Who could oppose this? Ask who pays for these ads. The Fossil Fuel industry knows Pennsylvanians want these benefits, not to mention a planet free of weather events.

Perhaps Ms. Brown, in her heart, wants them too. But obedience to her funders— and her icy ambition— take precedent.

It might worry Rosemary that both Democrats and Republicans are sickened by this vitriol. Ugliness has consequences.
