Nation's political divide show in gas price debate

On Saturday, the Savannah Morning News ran side-by-side opinion columns by Victor Davis Hanson and Catherine Rampell on the gas price crisis.

Hanson blames President Joe Biden: “The Biden Administration stopped all gas and oil production in the ANWR region of Alaska. It ended all new federal leases for drilling. It is canceling major new pipelines.”

Rampell says it’s not Biden: “Despite his tough campaign rhetoric, though, Biden has been relatively gentle on the fossil fuel industry ... As recently as January, he was outpacing Donald Trump in authorizing new drilling permits on public lands. ... Even if construction [on the Keystone pipeline] had continued, additional supply ... would be years away.”

Are they both right? Half-right? Cherry picking facts to fit their own narrative? No wonder our country is so divided.

Biden administration loses trust of American people

According to Vice President Kamala Harris, Americans are getting what they asked for. She was recently quoted at the Democratic National Committee saying: “Our task is to show people that, in many ways, they got what they ordered.”

From her statement, I can only guess this means record gas prices, historic inflation, runaway crime, an open border and a country moving in the wrong direction.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris have lost the trust of the American people. Their agenda is destroying wallets, pitting Americans against each other and weakening our standing on the world stage.
