On behalf of The Wagley Group Real Estate Advisors, the First Presbyterian Church of Adrian, the Lenawee Humane Society and the city of Adrian, I would like to thank everyone who made this year’s Dog Days of Summer First Fridays event possible in downtown Adrian.

It was a beautiful day, and there was a huge crowd to celebrate the heroes of the home … our beloved dogs. The “Family Reunion Photo” was taken before the parade began.

The festivities included the popular dog parade led by our very own college mascots, Adrian College’s Bruiser, along with members of AC’s cheer team, and Siena Heights University’s Halo. Many owners and dogs were announced at the four corners as they made the turn!

Following the parade, the dog contests were held at the grassy vacant lot on the corner of Winter and Maumee strets. Our judges for this event were Adrian Mayor Angie Sword Heath, veterinarian Dr. Mike Herr of the Adrian Animal Clinic and dog trainer Ted Aranda.

The cutest, funniest, best homemade and the most creative costumes were announced. The sponsor was Tasty Treats of Adrian, owned by Heather White. The costumes were very creative and well done!

New this year was the dog/owner pie eating contest sponsored by Red Mill Supply of Tecumseh, owned by Barbara Lahr and Tristan Lee. This contest was a big hit.

The PawsPort was supported by the following downtown Adrian businesses: Nutrition 365, Tink and the Frog, Bohmey Beauty, Passion 4 Fashion, The Marks Trading Co., Nova’s, Chaloner & Co., Musgrove and Co., Brick Wall Pub & Grill, First Presbyterian Church, The Buzz Café, Farver’s at the Croswell, Adrian District Library, Downtown Dempsey’s, Sass, Mammoth Distilling, Ghidrah’s Mind, Body, Spirit. The prize was a Yeti cooler.

Sound was provided by The Sound Doctor: Mike McLemore, Michelle McLemore and Madison Tedora. We appreciate all of you. Thanks to the Adrian DPW guys for preparing the spaces for the event; Capt. Don Cushing and the fellas of the Adrian Fire Department who helped fill the pools and watered down the parking lot.

The event was to benefit the Lenawee Humane Society, and we appreciate Becky Nichols and Sasha Wilkerson and their volunteers who assisted!

Michelle Dewey at city hall helped as well. Finally, to the volunteers from The Wagley Group Real Estate Advisors who worked hard to present this event again this year!

Looking forward, y’all, to Dog Days on Aug. 4, 2023!!!
