Letter: Where is the woke's sense of humor?

“Woke” people don't seem to like to laugh.

I mean, to really laugh.

Unless it's at the expense of those who they hate or who have hurt their (collective/cultish) feelings or who they can condescend to. Then it's no holds barred. They have no problem with attacking others who they resent or who just simply live and believe in a way that somehow reflects another viewpoint or life experience. Whatever that involves.

The Wokers love to insult and condescend to anyone, at a personal level, who they perceive as beneath them.

Attacking the non-woke and their ideas with personal insults is approved of by the cult. Just don't question the woke's belief system or it's culture. That's out of bounds.

In-crowd, put-down humor has always been cheap and cowardly. Unless you're taking on the rich and powerful. Especially the powerful institutions. But you usually get massacred for doing that. Not much of a risk in attacking an isolated individual, especially one who's outside the tribal ZIP code. Your working-class neighbor is not representative of powerful institutions. So go get ’em. Easy target.

The good news is that there are actually underground/alternative comedy venues filling the gap. Rising up. Getting bigger crowds of awakened (not woke) people who actually like to laugh at the ridiculousness of the world. The gap meaning the truth-space between the desert of robotic unfunniness that seems so pervasive. Where so many of the lamestream comics (the late nighters especially) can only keep repeating the same old stale and politically correct (non) jokes that somehow their shrinking and aging crowd seems to lap up.

But, thank God, the anti-woke Awakening is happening all over the world. There is hope. Subversive laughter is coming back. It's a natural need. It will always be dangerous. As it should be. To the corporate state. To those intent on controlling and suppressing thought and speech.

Still, I wonder how we would be able to smuggle into today's world the likes of George Carlin, Monty Python, the Marx Brothers, Don Rickles, Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks, Red Foxx, Richard Pryor, early SNL, Second City, the Smothers Brothers, Mort Sahl, etc. into any above ground venues today, before they'd be captured and sent to comedy re-education camps.

We may never know.

If you don't know them, check them out.
