Letters: Against abortion? Are you going to help moms with child care, medical bills?

Tue., May 3, 2022; Columbus, Ohio, USA; An abortion rights supporter holds a sign in protest near the Supreme Court of Ohio. The protest comes a day after the leak of a U.S. Supreme Court draft decision overturning Roe v. Wade. The 1973 landmark ruling protects a woman's right to choose to have an abortion. About 75 people stood outside protesting as heavy rail fell, which grew to about 150 within an hour. Mandatory Credit: Joshua A. Bickel/Columbus Dispatch

Are you going to help take care of child?

I would like to know how all those promoting a complete ban on abortion are planning on helping these moms and families deal with the consequences of this action.

Are you going to provide the necessary prenatal care for the mom? Are you going to help with child care?

Are you going to help with medical bills?

Are you going to ensure that preschool is available for all who need it? Are you going to provide therapy where and when it is needed?

Your concern for the child's life and well-being seem to stop at their birth. That is just the beginning but it feels as if many pro-lifers feel that is the end of their responsibility.

I do not know anyone who is "pro-abortion."

It must be a traumatic event for all involved and I am not sure if I could ever have done that myself, but I do not want to take away a woman's choice.

Postal Service moving in the right direction

It is a great honor to serve Columbus as your new Postmaster.

In my 27-year career, I have seen firsthand the role the Postal Service plays connecting neighbors and our community to the nation. Our Post Offices serve as a lifeline for small businesses to reach customers no matter where they are.

A year ago this month, the Postal Service published an ambitious but achievable 10-year strategic plan, Delivering for America. The plan established a route to building a Postal Service that is financially strong and consistently delivers on-time for the American public, our top customer.

A year into our 10-year plan, and under the leadership of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, we are taking action on its four key pillars: Investing in our people, modernizing our network, providing service excellence, and creating financial sustainability.

Our actions are already leading to concrete results. In Columbus, we have seen significant improvements in our on-time delivery performance. We have evaluated staffing at our retail locations to better match customer traffic to reduce wait time in line. We also continue to hire new employees to support our delivery services.

We’re moving in the right direction, and we have more work to do, so on behalf of the 650,000 women and men of the U.S. Postal Service, I thank you for continuing to support the Postal Service. Providing reliable mail delivery while strengthening the future of this treasured institution is our commitment to you.
