Letters: Authorizing Ivermectin to treat COVID-19 is 'off the wall, looney tunes'

Surely Goshen has someone who displays intelligence and competency to serve as their representative other than Rep. Curt Nisly, who has authored a bill which serves to cast Indiana as an uneducated, Bubba state by ignoring scientists and doctors. Nisly’s bill promotes the use of Ivermectin, a drug used to worm horses, for human consumption.

A few short years ago, someone advocating such legislation would have been ridiculed and labeled as unstable. The bill gets more absurd with the stipulation pharmacists must not provide information which discourages using ivermectin to treat COVID-19.

It is the duty of pharmacists to inform and educate of the proper usage and potential dangers of medications. The use of Ivermectin by humans can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, itching & hives, dizziness, balance difficulties, seizures, coma, and death.

The drug was not formulated for human consumption. It is difficult to comprehend how anyone could be perceived as competent after such an off-the-wall, looney tunes proposal.

People should know side effects

Regarding the introduction of House Bill 1362 in Indiana House for use of Ivermectin to treat Covid 19 – and silencing information of its adverse consequences.

Mr. Nisly obviously doesn't believe in science with the introduction of his bill, yet he wears glasses, is on medication, uses a cell phone, uses gas and electricity, and drives a car, all developed by science. It's hypocrisy to dismiss one part of proven science yet rely on another.

Health care personnel and manufacturers are required to state negative effects and adverse reactions to any medication. It's called informed consent.

As my mother used to say ‘it’s better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt’.

COVID-19 update: Cases on the rise, hospitals feeling the burden

Muzzling pharmacists makes us less safe

I’m beginning to think that it would be safer for Hoosiers if our state legislators just stayed home this session. HB 1362, which will allow doctors to prescribe Ivermectin to treat covid. Pharmacists will be prohibited from mentioning their concerns about possible ivermectin poisoning.

We send our legislators to Indianapolis to make life better for the citizens of Indiana, not to indulge their pet peeves by writing crackpot legislation. Because rural counties like mine are so ruby red, reflexively voting Republican no matter the candidate, bills such as these succeed in becoming law. Even our most extremist politicians know they have nothing to fear from the voters, and we end up less safe.

Science takes a backseat in Indiana

I understand Indiana is considering legislation to force doctors and pharmacists to provide Ivermectin to Covid patients who request it. This, even though the professionals training and science have clearly indicated that the use of Ivermectin for this purpose is not effective and may even be harmful.

Science in Indiana seems to have been sent to the back of the bus driven by politics. Sad.

Ivermectin proposal ludicrous

The dangerousness of COVID is based on only two factors: 1. How dense the population is, and 2. How dense the population is.
