Cane growers motivated by profits

The column “Cane growers are stewards of the land “ on May 19 was inspiring, but lacking honesty. It did not mention the burning of leaves to make harvesting easier and cheaper, in spite of the damage it causes to the health of the residents in the area.

Cane burning has been done for decades. Mr. Hoffman promises “Over the next 60 years, we will do our part to keep our nation fed, and we can achieve this as long as we continue to embrace innovation and sustainability, prioritize the need for a domestic food supply, and have the support and backing of our community for the critical work we do.” Continuing the decades-long, health-damaging cane burning, while ignoring other methods of cane harvesting that are available, is not embracing innovation. It shows disregard to the community and the health of its residents, for the sake of higher profits.

Penalties for gun deaths must change

I believe that if we are going to charge drug dealers with murder when someone dies on purpose or accidentally from the drugs they’ve sold them, then we should charge gun dealers with murder when someone kills themselves or others with guns. I don't see the difference.

DeSantis cartoon abhorrent

I have been purchasing your paper for the last 20 plus years. I realize that this paper leans to the left but Friday's editorial cartoon was abhorrent to say the least. How could you allow such a low class, insulting and downright wrong portrayal of our Governor. To suggest that Gov. DeSantis aligns himself with a white supremacist is beyond absurd. You owe me and your readers an apology.

Cartoon downright offensive

I can't believe you had the gall to print the very offensive cartoon. There is no indication that the Governor is pro-Nazi, anti-Semitic or even anti-Gay. Please think before you print anti-social and defamatory cartoons that are offensive to the rather large Jewish community in Palm Beach County. You should be embarrassed and ashamed. The only reason The Palm Beach Post is still here is because you are the only game in town. What happened to the newspaper that used to bring us news?

MAGA cartoon an affront

Your political cartoon in Saturday's Opinion Page was offensive and crossed the line of fair and balanced political speech. Shame on the Post for electing to print it.

Our country can't stand divided

We had better pay more attention to the divisiveness in our country.  It is frightening how bad it had gotten. As important as domestic issues are, we must figure a way to reduce the vitriol between the two sides in this country. Besides the obvious self-destruction that it could lead to, we need to think about how other countries perceive us. We are losing our image of strength and power. A country divided cannot stand  If we think about our self-image, it might “scare” both sides into more compromising or do whatever it takes to come together as a country. Considering what is happening in the world we need a united front.
