DeSantis signing death warrants

The Republicans in the Florida legislature, under the orders of the governor, are killing us. He signed a bill that allows anyone to buy a firearm, without any training or a background check. The No. 1 cause of death of our children is firearm violence. We are the only country in the world with that statistic.

The governor also signed, late at night, in secret, a six-week abortion ban. Most women do not even know they are pregnant before then. Certainly, a 10-year-old would not! Sometimes a very-wanted pregnancy goes horribly wrong. Women are forced to carry dead fetuses until they become so ill, they are close to death. The U.S. is ranked 55th of developed countries for maternal death. Of course, low-income and minority women bear the brunt of this travesty.

Our trans community bears a heavy burden. They are abused and disrespected. And now...the children may not receive the medical help needed to have a long and happy life! Heart-breaking!

Being “woke” is being caring and aware of people who are not exactly like you. Yes, governor, Florida is where “woke” comes to die.

Vote GOP hypocrites out

Be prepared. While the national debt historically ballooned hugely under Trump because of his tax cuts for the rich, Republicans quietly raised the debt limit three times. Now Republicans will bring us to the brink of a global financial meltdown because they are asked to raise the debt ceiling once under Biden to meet the government’s obligations.

What hypocrites Republicans are. Vote them out.

Gender topic ban harms students

As I teacher, I have followed with some interest the recent Florida legislation that mandates that Florida K-12 schools “not intentionally provide classroom instruction...on sexual orientation or gender identity.”

I am reminded of the story of Alan Turing. As many of us know he was, in great part, responsible for breaking the German secret codes during WW2 and is credited for saving millions of lives. He additionally receives credit for the ideas leading to the invention of the computer. Tragically, he committed suicide after being convicted of “the crime” of homosexuality in Britain.

The story of Alan Turing’s life would not be well told without mention of how it ended. His ending forces the learner to contemplation and reflection, which I submit is what we want our children to do (at an appropriate age-certainly as they near high school graduation).

Threatening the livelihood of teachers now burdened with the fear that any mention of gender-related facts corrupts one of the foundational goals of education – to require our children to learn to think about the world they will enter. How else can we have any hope they will change it for the better?

America too indebted to China

America is indebted to China to the hilt. Communist China owns land in our country, even Florida.

Is anybody checking on where they and 108 others are purchasing farmland? Some are near military bases. Only God knows how much espionage four previous spy balloons gleaned before this administration finally shot down the fifth! Spy balloons, AKA “espionage air ships,” with sophisticated radar capabilities.

The House and Senate argue foreign influence could affect America’s economy, food supply, and national security. When God gave us America, he told us to, “Subdue the earth, take care of it.” I don’t believe He wanted 108 others (some countries) to own more American farmland than China (No. 18 on list), nor would He agree to China building a corn mill close to a North Dakota Air Force Base. FYI, Jeff Bezos is No. 24, Bill Gates No. 41, and Canada No. 1 (12.3 million acres)!

China and Russia, in cahoots, is no surprise. Neither is China’s alliance with Saudia Arabia, Brazil, and France. Foreign leaders are flocking to China’s President XI.

Whoever said, “China is a growing threat” (I say major threat) was spot on! Years ago, I remember clipping a newspaper article that said, “China already has a military of 200 million.” It’s all lining up as part of God’s plan in the Bible. Trump dealt boldly and fearlessly with China!

Judges playing with lives

Our latest mass shooting had a twist in that is wasn’t a school or nightclub. Having been bankers is just as awful for human life was extinguished by a lone gunman toting a new assault weapon. Congress doesn’t care. They always have a judge in the bag to overrule any law banning guns built for killing humans efficiently.

But boy when the president was shot and Brady took one for the Kipper Congress passed the “Brady” bill. I hate to say it, but if some nut job shoots up Congress you can bet they would get off their behinds and pass legislation banning assault weapons and the like. And if a judge overrules the law, that judge is disbarred and jailed without bond in a county lock-up, for the Constitution doesn’t say right to bear assault weapons. The Constitution was written back when they had black powder 50 caliber single shot muzzle loaders!

So, conniving judges interpret certain laws. Interpretation could easily read right to bear biological and nuclear weapons, so judges are just scapegoats used by Congress so that legislation will be overruled. Legislation that a common-sensed 4-year-old could differentiate.

Political patients running asylum

Guest columnist Mike Mazur’s Sunday column about “rabbit holes” destroying our country was a testament illustrating how Mazur and others of his ilk are the ones destroying this country. I got to the second paragraph and went no further.

In it, Mazur stated that people on the right are “riled up” by their leaders because of their fears and inability to face change, while people on the left are “trying to lift others up.” So, Republicans are weak minded simpletons, fearful and being led by the nose, while Democrats are the adult ones, trying to “lift others up.”

I ask: how can we as a people reach any kind of consensus, when half of us think the other half are idiots, not worthy of being listened to because their opinions don’t count? This is why the left narrative is a pernicious and self-defeating effort. Basically, it is an attempt to impose, by coercion, an Orwellian uniformity of thought.

The left will brook no dissent and will accept no intellectual challenges. You will simply believe as they do, exactly as they do, or you will be deemed a hater, an idiot, a fearful simpleton, and you will be canceled, and your life ruined. As in Orwell’s dystopia, up is down and white is black.

We have reached the end, folks. The patients are running the asylum.

Stick to OLF-8 Master Plan

Commissioner Bergosh wrote in his April 25 viewpoint that over the next 60 days the Board of County Commissioners will hammer out an agreement with Horton/Stirling. It portends some older song lyrics that still aptly apply: “If I had a hammer, I’d hammer in the morning. I’d hammer in the evening, all over this land. I’d hammer out danger. I’d hammer out warning…”

The land is OLF-8. The danger is the abandonment of the DPZ/BCC compromise Master Plan we the people and the BCC agreed to. The warning is we only get to do this once for the posterity of our families and betterment of the future.

The Beulah Coalition, which began five years ago, has never moved the goal posts as the commissioner alludes to. We have always advocated a mixed-use development in accordance with a well-crafted professional Master Plan in lieu of a commerce park. Now, after a lengthy, passionate effort by all parties, when we have an agreed to deal in the form of the Master Plan and its accompanying land development codes, the BCC is attempting to deftly move the goal posts.

Stick to the Master Plan!
