Giving credit where credit is deserved for Huizenga

I have chastised Bill Huizenga frequently and sternly on the opinion page. Today is different.

Huizenga recently crossed party lines (with 15 others) and voted yes to the Puerto Rico Status Act, which would give Puerto Ricans an opportunity to vote for statehood, independence or a compact of free association with the U.S. (Puerto Rico is currently a U.S. territory dating back to the age of colonialism.)

Granting people the right of self-determination is just and reasonable. Huizenga got this one correct. Kudos to him.

A short bit of verse

The morning after Christmas, we awoke (it was still dark).

we waited sev’ral hours for the first celestial spark,

then ventured through the gloaming, roaming through the silent streets

in quest for caffeinated drinks and starchy sweetened treats.
