Thanks for another successful Pooch Plunge

To the editor:

The Humane Society of Washington County’s annual Pooch Plunge once again closed out the summer on a high note. On Sept. 6 and Sept. 8, a total of 149 dogs attended the two Pooch Plunges to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County (HSWC).

We would like to extend our gratitude to the Pooch Plunge’s generous lead sponsor, Hearty Pet Retail. We would also like to thank the City of Hagerstown, a supporting sponsor for this year’s Potterfield Pool event.

HSWC is grateful to both Potterfield Pool and Marty Snook Pool, our loyal event volunteers, vendors and everyone who attended the Pooch Plunges to make each evening a success. Together, we raised more than $2,500 for the animals.

We are truly grateful to the community for supporting our fundraising events and helping HSWC save even more lives.

Beware the dangers America faces as election nears

To the editor:

As we approach election season, it is time for folks to realize the danger posed to our country by some of the candidates.

In the first days President Trump was in office in 2016, we were told by Kellyanne Conway that he lives in an "alternate" reality. We need public officials to live in the true reality and recognize the problems in that true reality.

Trump ignored the dangers posed by COVID and in the beginning did nothing to warn the people to mask and practice social distancing. His administration did fast-track vaccines, but the constant messaging of “it will go away” or “we have very few cases” was living in an alternate reality that ultimately caused the deaths of many in the United States. This number could have been drastically reduced simply by not politicizing the use of masks and ignoring reality.

There are many candidates running today that are living in an alternate reality when they claim that Trump won the 2020 election. This has been disproved time and time again, yet these candidates are running for offices like governors, senators, representatives in Congress, and even local offices … . Over a dozen Republican candidates in competitive races for governor and the Senate have declined to say if they would accept the results of the upcoming contests. These people pose a great danger to our country.

Anyone who is living in an “alternate" reality cannot properly serve the American people. We need people who recognize the true reality and solve the actual problems we are facing. Be sure to carefully consider where a candidate lives — the real world or an alternate world — before voting.
