Not going away

This is a response to a July 30 letter referencing Sharon Kourous/Stronger Together Huddle.

First, banned books. It’s so curious how some vigorously defend the First Amendment to spread misinformation and outright lies that serve a specific purpose. Yet, the same population fights like hell to quash 1A rights when they apply to speech/expression that doesn’t conform to certain ideological views.

To the writer’s comment about genital mutilation, allow me to offer proper terminology and context, as these children/adolescents are already at significantly higher risk for suicide and self-harm. Gender-affirming services are legitimate medical treatments for gender dysphoria, a clinical diagnosis recognized by nearly all U.S. insurance companies. Gender-affirming services are endorsed by the World Health Organization, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society of Adolescent Health and Medicine and the American Medical Association, to name just a few worldwide organizations of distinction.

With his inaccurate statements about Black Lives Matter, critical race theory, white privilege and white supremacy, it occurs to me that the writer is, perhaps, preoccupied with race. To be clear, as there’s been much misinformation, CRT is taught almost entirely in law schools and universities. White supremacy is a legitimate, national concern, considering more than a third of annual incidents of domestic terrorism are racially/ethnically motivated (U.S. Government Accountability Office, March 2023). Google “Buffalo NY shooting,” “Charlottesville Unite the Right rally” or “January 6 2021” for recent examples.

I also find it interesting that, in the writer’s view, the “most corrupt president in the history of our country” is somehow not the rapist who’s been indicted for multiple federal crimes, including conspiracy to defraud the U.S. Then again, with the writer’s condescending references to “ladies” and Hillary Clinton, it appears that he shares disgraced ex-President Donald Trump’s disdain for intelligent, ambitious women.

The writer’s discomfort with Sharon Kourous/Stronger Together Huddle is unfortunate. As Gov. Gretchen Whitmer proves every day, as Michigan women proved by propelling Proposal 3 into law, as the Stronger Together Huddle proves with its activism, he can be certain of this: We are not going away.

Thank you for the space to voice my opinion.

I was wondering why the United Auto Workers has aligned itself with a church for a local food bank?

The UAW uses the hard-earned money of union dues to support every anti-God, anti-Christian legislation by donating 99%-plus to the Democratic Party, which passes laws fighting the church’s beliefs. Abortion, same-sex marriage, taking prayer out of schools, etc.

The ACLU and the church spend millions of dollars fighting in court against each other. This seems a contradiction to me. How can monies from the UAW that has an agenda for the “kingdom of darkness uses the same filthy lucre (money) to support the kingdom of light?” (2 Corinthians 11:14). And no wonder! “For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 6:14) and tells the church “do not be unequally yoked…." What in common has light with darkness?

Could it be since the UAW recently has gone through a public embarrassment by its international president sent to prison on corruption charges? Damage control! Those opposing kingdoms are a contradiction. They have opposite agendas. They cannot mix together according to the Word. The church doesn’t need UAW’s money to advance the kingdom of God.
